Project Overview: I conducted an in-depth analysis of unveiling the factors behind Gun Violence in the USA, using SAS to uncover key trends, patterns, and contributing factors. The goal was to understand the dynamics of gun violence, with a focus on workplace shootings, and to generate actionable insights for potential interventions and policy recommendations.

Key Contributions & Approach:

  • Data exploration and cleaning: Utilized SAS to prepare and clean large datasets, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the data used for analysis.
  • Advanced statistical modeling: Conducted hypothesis testing and applied statistical models to explore the relationship between various factors such as casualties, firearm types, and the location of incidents (urban, suburban, rural).
  • Correlation analysis: Analyzed correlations between variables like the number of casualties, firearms involved, and shooting locations, unveiling critical patterns in gun violence incidents.
  • Moderation analysis: Applied moderation analysis techniques to examine how different firearm types impact the number of casualties, providing deeper insights into the severity of gun violence.
  • Demographic analysis: Investigated the influence of factors such as religion, race, and location on the number of casualties, identifying disparities and trends.
  • Multiple location analysis: Explored the differences between single and multiple location shootings, highlighting the varying dynamics of gun violence events.
  • Proficiency in SAS: Demonstrated advanced proficiency in SAS, leveraging its statistical tools and techniques to conduct comprehensive analyses and derive actionable insights.

Results:

  • The analysis revealed key patterns and correlations in gun violence incidents, informing potential policy changes and providing critical insights for organizations working on violence prevention.
  • The findings helped highlight high-risk areas and factors that significantly contribute to casualties, aiding in the development of data-driven strategies for reducing gun violence.

Skills Utilized:

  • SAS (for data analysis and modeling)
  • Statistical Data Analysis (hypothesis testing, moderation analysis)
  • Python (for additional data processing)
  • Microsoft Power BI (for presenting data insights)
